History
This exact Land Rover NAS Defender 90, produced in 1994 as a prototype by Land Rover North America, holds a significant place in the brand's history. In 1993, Land Rover had manufactured just over 500 North American Specification Defender 110s, all of which were hardtop models finished in white. In response to the North American market's preferences, Land Rover North America decided to change its approach. Thus, in 1994, they commenced production of the North American Specification Defender 90, a new model with a shorter wheelbase, a soft top, and a wider range of available colors.
This 1994 NAS Defender 90 for sale played a pivotal role as the prototype vehicle for the NAS Defender 90. Although it shared similarities with the subsequent 1994 NAS Defender 90 models, it possessed several intriguing differences. Notable among these distinctions were a European Defender-style bulkhead, a single-stage paint job, a unique roll bar configuration, and various prototype-like elements, including a homemade-looking air conditioning system. Initially serving as one of the press cars for the launch of the North American Land Rover Defender 90, this vehicle later found use at a Land Rover driving school.
Between 1994 and 1997, Land Rover produced over 6,500 NAS Defender 90s, making this featured truck the very first one manufactured. Owning this vehicle presents an incredible and potentially once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to possess a significant piece of Land Rover's rich heritage, as well as an important piece in both automotive and American history. Renowned worldwide for its iconic rugged design and exceptional capabilities, Land Rover is a globally recognized brand. The NAS Defender 90, in particular, has garnered immense popularity among collectors and enthusiasts, solidifying its position as one of the most sought-after Land Rover models. Since its introduction in 1994, this vehicle has become a familiar sight in American culture, gracing the screens of movies, the pages of magazines, and various other media.
The appreciation for NAS Defenders has reached unprecedented levels, with pristine examples fetching prices close to $200,000, and even decent running models regularly selling for over $70,000 within a matter of days, and sometimes even hours. This serves as a testament to the enduring desirability and enduring legacy of the NAS Defender 90 within the automotive community.

Other Notes About The Truck
The Rover is in original and immaculate mechanical condition
The day the Rover was photographed, it hadn’t been cleaned due to a last minute photoshoot
The cosmetic imperfections can be attributed to its time as essentially an experimental vehicle, then a press vehicle, and finally an off road driving school vehicle
The aforementioned imperfections have largely been left untouched to preserve the originality of the Rover and its story
Everything on the truck is fully operational and works as it should unless otherwise noted
The passenger side zipper on the rear window of the Tickford soft top needs to be replaced
The Warn winch is missing its controller and it is unknown if it works
The bimini top has a small tear on the right rear strap connecting point
The badge appears to be a greenish color - this is excess detailing material and will be cleaned up. A new photo will be added as soon as that is done
