How to Book Your Ferry

To Book a Ferry Reservation Please Visit:

www.thesteamshipauthority.com

Or

Follow the Step by Step Instructions Below

Create your Steamship Authority (SSA) Account

In order to book a ferry reservation with the Steamship Authority, you must first create an account.

Fill out the Contact information

If you have traveled with the SSA previously you will have a profile number but if you are unable to find it in your old emails please click “No, I don’t.” If that does not work, please create a new account with a different email address than used previously.

Fill out the rest of the necessary information on the page

Go to the My Vehicles tab and click add new vehicle

Enter your Vehicle Information

Enter your license plate information of the vehicle you plan to bring.

Enter the year/make/model of your vehicle (It is likely your exact vehicle is not listed, if not enter any pre 2000 Land Rover model you can find - it shouldn't matter the year as long as the dimensions are roughly the same, i.e. anything under 20ft)

From the Steamship Authority website: All reservations are non-transferable and a license plate number is required

*You may change your vehicle information later on should you decide to bring a different car. This may be done on the website but we recommend calling the SSA directly to make sure that you don’t accidentally cancel your reservation.

Day of Travel Information (martha’s Vineyard)

Timing

Please arrive at the terminal at least 30 minutes before your departure time. To be safe, we encourage you to arrive 40-60 minutes before your departure time. Doing so will provide us extra time to resolve any issues that could arise, whether that be issues with your own trucks breaking down or with the ferry. The ferries usually leave the dock at the departure time listed, and finish loading vehicles 15 minutes before that. That being said, there is a strong possibility you will miss the ferry if you show up 5 minutes before your departure time.

Checking In

At this point, everybody should have their ferry reservations booked. For good measure, we recommend printing out or taking a photo of your reservation confirmation. This info can be found on you Steamship Authority account or in your email. The attendant at the booth should be able to pull up your reservation without it but in the case they aren’t, please be ready with your profile number and reservation number.

Ferry Etiquette

Please be patient with the ferry employees. The nicer you are to them, the more helpful they will be. No Jerry Cans with any amount of gas will be permitted on the ferry.

Bringing a Truck and Trailer

If you plan on bringing a truck and trailer, please be aware that the Woods Hole terminal will NOT have room for you to keep it there. We would call the Steamship Authority at (508) 548-5011 or (508) 477-8600 to see if you can park your truck and trailer at one of their parking lots up the road from the terminal. If you are traveling this way, please still plan to arrive with enough time to be lined up in the ferry line at least 30 minutes before your departure time.
